Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 October 2026
This policy explains what the Sewing: Learn to Sew iOS app (“the app”, “we”) collects, why, and what you can do about it. If anything here is unclear, email talzvi99@gmail.com.
There is no account
The app has no sign-up, no login and no password. We never ask for your email address, phone number or date of birth. If you type a first name during setup, it stays on your device and is used only to greet you.
What stays on your device
- Your lesson progress, saved and finished projects, and notes
- Your answers to the setup questions
- Your conversations with the sewing coach
- Photos of your projects
- App settings
If you are signed in to iCloud, Apple syncs this data to your own private iCloud account so it follows you to a new device. That copy lives in your Apple account; we cannot read it.
What leaves your device, and when
Messages and photos you send to the sewing coach
When you ask the coach a question, your message, the earlier messages of that conversation (so the coach can remember what you said), and any photo you attach are sent to our service, which forwards them to Google (Gemini API) to produce the answer. The answer comes back and is stored on your device.
Our service does not keep your messages or photos: it passes them through and records only counters (how many questions were asked, and their cost). Google processes them under the Gemini API terms for paid services, which state that content sent through the paid API is not used to train Google’s models; Google may keep it for a limited time to detect abuse, as its terms describe. If you never use the coach, no message or photo ever leaves your device.
Your device’s identity to our service
So that our costs cannot be run up by someone who is not a real user, every coach request is signed by your device using Apple’s App Attest. Our service stores the public key Apple generates for this and a count of your coach questions. That key is specific to this app on this device and contains nothing about you.
Usage and diagnostic data
We collect information about how the app is used — screens opened, lessons started and finished, buttons tapped, your setup answers (such as sewing experience, the kind of things you want to make, and minutes per day), and technical details such as device model, iOS version, app version and country. We use it to fix what is broken, decide what to build next and personalise your plan. It is processed by PostHog and tied to a random identifier generated when you first open the app; it is not your Apple ID or your name. Deleting the app loses that identifier.
Video lessons
Lessons play inside the app in YouTube’s embedded player (privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com). When you play a video, YouTube receives the request as it would on any website and handles it under Google’s privacy policy.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple; we never see your card, name or email. Adapty processes the receipt on our behalf, under the same random identifier, so the app knows whether your subscription is active.
What we never collect
- Your email address, phone number or postal address
- Your location
- Your contacts, calendar, health data or messages
- Your photo library — the app only receives the individual pictures you choose
- Anything for advertising. The app shows no ads and we do not sell data to anybody.
The people who process data for us
- Google (Gemini API) — answers coach questions and reads the photos you send to the coach
- Cloudflare — runs our service, which sits between the app and Google
- PostHog — usage and diagnostic data
- Adapty and Apple — subscriptions; Apple also syncs your data to your own iCloud
- YouTube — plays the video lessons
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app and something needs deleting, email us and we will do it.
Your rights
Because your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud, deleting the app (and its iCloud data in Settings → your name → iCloud) removes it. For anything we hold — the usage data and the device attestation record — email talzvi99@gmail.com and we will delete it. If you are in the UK, the EU or California, you have the right to ask what we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, and to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it and the new version is published here before it takes effect.
